Political commentators say that Akeredolu, who has an idea about his illness, must have planned it in advance by giving his son such enormous power to render the deputy governor’s office incapacitated. It was learned that Governor Akeredolu allegedly sidelined his deputy with the consent of his wife who was said to be against Aiyedatiwa as her husband’s successor. The governor’s wife is said to prefer Oke, who hails from Ilaje, Ondo South State, to take over from her husband because there might be a gubernatorial ticket. For example, former Governor Mimiko who hails from Ondo Central served for eight years, Akeredolu from Owo, Ondo North will be eight in 2025 so the ticket will automatically revert to Ondo South. Oke and Aiyedatiwa are from Ilaje, Akinterinwa from Ile Oluji, Akintelure who was Akeredolu runner up in 2012 is also from Ondo South. The Guardian concluded that since the governor’s wife had enormous influence in Ondo politics, she probably facilitated the appointment of the current deputy governor before they parted ways. This may not be due to the fact that he felt Aiyedatiwa was too ambitious. But attempts to remove Aiyedatiwa failed. The recent Speaker of the Ondo House of Assembly, Bamidele Oloyeloogun, was involved in a plot to initiate impeachment against Aiyedatiwa, but Oloyeloogun refused to participate. Another dangerous game was propaganda to the immediate past Speaker of the Ondo House of Assembly, whose forces wanted to agree on the impeachment of Aiyedatiwa. Unfortunately, the strategy didn’t work. The plan was to ensure that Oloyeloogun would start an impeachment against Aiyedatiwa, but the former speaker got chills from the move. The idea to force Oloyeloogun to resign was to bring in another speaker, perhaps from Owo, Ondo North, to remove Aiyedatiwa if Akeredolu does not return, but the new speaker, who was supposed to come from Owo, Ondo North, simply resigned. . to complete the governor’s mandate. The new speaker will then have no chance to contest the governorship primaries next year because he is not from Ondo South. Unfortunately, the plan failed. Therefore, Oloyeloogun’s signature on the resignation letter was forged and made available to the media, but a speaker in close proximity shouted that his signature was forged. Aiyedatiwa, who was informed of his impeachment plan, quickly contacted the party’s National Secretariat and the Presidency, who sent security agents to surround the Ondo State House of Representatives to prevent Aiyedatiwa from being impeached or Oloyeloogun resigning as Speaker. Following the March 18, 2023 State House of Assembly polls, the Oloyeloogun-led Ninth House of Assembly was dissolved and a new Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, who hailed from the Central Senate Zone, was elected. This shut down the plan to bring in another speaker from Owo North. to end Akeredolu’s tenure. But the plot to get rid of Aiyedatiwa did not stop, his bad guys also organized another plan claiming that he molested his wife which failed again. Opponents of Aiyedatiwa also believe that although he hails from Ilaje, the southernmost largest constituency, their argument is that Aiyedatiwa does not have the capacity to govern Ondo and is not as deeply rooted as Oke, Akinterinwa, Akintelure and others in Ondo region. politics For them, Aiyedatiwa also lacked the necessary leadership. For example, the deputy governor is said to have started presenting himself as the governor even though power has not yet been transferred to him, portraying the behavior of someone who can intimidate other members of the cabinet. Other party sources said Aiyedatiwa’s ordeal could worsen now that the governor is back. Whatever the case may be, experts are crossing their fingers to see how Akeredolu handles the various security reports and other intrigues and the inclusion of all over time.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, says it has finally obtained the World Health Organisation approval to produce vaccines locally, with the attainment of 868 recommendations.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Moji Adeyeye, made this known on Wednesday (today) at a press conference in Abuja, noting that the feat has made Nigeria the third African country and few globally to attain the status.

“With the attainment of 868 recommendations, we (NAFDAC) can manufacture our own vaccines,” she added.

She disclosed that the process of local vaccine production has started with the construction of a vaccine laboratory in Oshodi, Lagos.

Recall that the WHO had earlier upgraded the agency to ‘Maturity Level Three’ in drug regulations.

Prof. Adeyeye revealed that the journey to attain the status started in January 2018, five weeks after she resumed office as the director-general, adding that the agency went through a lot of tasks before it could attain maturity level three.

Prof. Adeyeye said she learnt about the development around 1am on Wednesday (today), and she immediately broadcast the news via e-mail to some relevant government personalities.

She said, “The agency had earlier been told sometime in 2018, that it needed to meet up with 868 recommendations before it can get to maturity level three, and the agency immediately stepped up work on the process.

“WHO Global benchmarking is all about comparing regulatory agencies that work to carry out tasks pertaining to the best health regulatory agencies in the world. It is not about comparing ourselves with ourselves but with the best.

“And they told us that we need to meet up with 868 recommendations before we can get to maturity level three, it sounded impossible but my directors stood by me all the way.”

Continuing, Prof. Adeyeye said, “There is a group of people in NAFDAC, we call them the Global Benchmarking team, and they have sacrificed a lot. They are the ones that were marking whatever recommendations we have met.

“In June 2019, the WHO came to NAFDAC physically to start the benchmarking process and out of the 868 recommendations, we were able to make over 600, and we had 147 left up till June 2019. But those 147 that were left were the most difficult ones.

“We started working at it with retreat and training because it is all about training. One thing we also did was to make sure NAFDAC is built on a `quality management system’. That was what got us to the 147 recommendations left in 2019.

“We continued in that direction, but in July 2021, the WHO met with us virtually and we were able to reduce the 147 to 33. The 33 were the most difficult and our staff worked for endless hours. I thank them. May I also use this medium to thank the council for recommending regulations; they work tirelessly.”

Prof. Adeyeye said that with the 33 tasks left, the WHO returned in October 2021, by which time, the agency had been able to clear all the remaining recommendations and was waiting for it to be re-benchmarked.

The NAFDAC director-general, said that the WHO also came between February 21 and 25, 2022 to re-benchmark the agency, and the information was finally broken to the agency.

According to her, global benchmarking required about eight functions that must be performed to the satisfaction of the WHO, among which is licensing and inspection.

She noted that throughout the journey of attaining the present status, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria was behind the agency and stood in a prime position to ensure the licensing of pharmaceutical companies before they can start operations.

Prof. Adeyeye said that without NAFDAC and PCN, Nigeria would be filled with substandard and fake drugs, adding that PCN did a lot of downstream functions in checking for substandard.

She gave an assurance that the agency would work to further ensure it attained level four maturity status.

She thanked the presidency for the confidence reposed in her to work for Nigeria.

Mr. Yusuf Suleiman, chairman, NAFDAC Governing Board, also appreciated the role played by the government, adding that the support made the agency to strengthen its regulatory capacity.

He said that the level three maturity status bestowed on Nigeria meant that the country would be recognised worldwide, and that whatever the agency approved as NAFDAC, would be certified worldwide.
